Evolving....

My first concentrated effort on writing for my blog; it is scary! I am a librarian lucky enough to work in a beautiful part of the world when it is not raining. It is not called the “Wild Atlantic Way” for nothing!

Social media is the space where our present and future users are at the moment and I need to get on board the train and engage and communicate with them across these platforms ( no pun intended)

As a health librarian, new research is vital to our staff and it often comes in many guises these days so with that in mind I attended a short course on Twitter in Sligo yesterday hosted by the library staff in Sligo University Hospital and facilitated by Jane Burns.

It was fun, informative and engaging – there was a lot of tweeting, lots still to learn – the 140 character limit is both challenging and productive; focusing me to be clear and concise; difficult coming from an Arts background where I excelled in flowery descriptive language.

I have a bit of an inner conflict at the moment – Social Media is great and where the library/information sector need to be; however I have asked myself do I really want to be there also ....my Google account is wonderful but sometimes I forget that everything is linked now and sharing might not be caring in every instance.  The lines between our working/professional life and personal lives can get blurred without discipline

I’m excited to start #Rudai 23 though and look forward to getting to know my peers in a safe environment.  Onwards and upwards

Happy Roald Dahl Day  - September 13th 2017 --- big fan of his books!
